The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a change of leadership at the Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command, with Comptroller Joe Anani assuming duty as the new Customs Area Controller.

Comptroller Anani took over from Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Tenny Mankini Daniyan at a brief ceremony following recent deployments approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

In his inaugural address, Anani commended the achievements of his predecessor, particularly in steering the command through the roll-out of the Unified Customs Management System, popularly known as B’Odogwu. He described the PTML Command as well-organised and pledged to build on existing records of efficiency, revenue generation, and trade facilitation.

The new CAC emphasized the importance of compliance, describing it as the foundation of smooth port operations. He noted that PTML holds an outstanding record of releasing compliant roll-on/roll-off consignments within two hours and expressed optimism that the timeframe could be reduced further with enhanced cooperation.

He assured officers, sister agencies, and private sector stakeholders of his accessibility, promising to maintain open communication both physically and virtually. “Our journey to succeed must remain a collective task,” he said, calling for joint efforts to sustain PTML as a model port of excellence.

Comptroller Anani also reaffirmed the Customs Service’s zero tolerance for smuggling, warning that non-compliance would attract interventions such as demand notices, seizures, and possible arrests.

Stakeholders present at the ceremony lauded the leadership of ACG Daniyan, particularly his role in piloting the B’Odogwu project from inception to full deployment across various commands. They described his tenure as trailblazing, marked by improved trade, revenue, and stakeholder engagement.

Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, President of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), praised Daniyan as a leader whose record speaks volumes. Similarly, the Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), PTML Chapter, Chief Charles Nwarrienne, described him as deserving of a “certificate of project completion.”

In his farewell remarks, ACG Daniyan expressed gratitude to God and stakeholders for their support, noting that the success of B’Odogwu and other milestones was achieved through collective dedication and commitment.
