The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) extends its heartfelt congratulations to AIG Tunji Olatunji Disu on his appointment as Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Association commends the President for this strategic and well-considered appointment, which is firmly anchored on merit, competence, and proven performance. This decision reflects confidence in IGP Disu’s professionalism, integrity, and capacity to lead, and aligns with the urgent imperative to strengthen policing and internal security across the nation.

IGP Disu’s distinguished career exemplifies discipline, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to service. As Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, he implemented proactive, intelligence-driven crime-fighting initiatives that significantly enhanced public safety and operational responsiveness. As Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), he coordinated complex and sensitive operations with tactical precision and professionalism.

His tenure as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, further demonstrated exceptional administrative leadership, crisis management capabilities, and dedication to maintaining law and order in highly challenging environments. As Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, he strengthened investigative capacity, reinforced institutional discipline, and promoted professionalism across the Force.

IGP Disu has participated in numerous specialised training programmes in Nigeria and abroad, covering areas such as small arms smuggling, internet fraud, forensic investigations, and strategic leadership. These exposures have equipped him with the expertise required to confront emerging security threats, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime, and organised criminal networks.

At this critical juncture in Nigeria’s security landscape, the Association recognises the magnitude of the mandate before the Inspector-General of Police. The Association anticipates a renewed emphasis on intelligence-led policing, strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, enhanced officers’ welfare and discipline, expanded deployment of modern technology in crime detection and prevention, and unwavering adherence to the rule of law and respect for human rights.

The Association expresses full confidence that IGP Disu will leverage his extensive experience, strategic insight, and professionalism to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a more efficient, accountable, and citizen-focused institution. His disciplined approach, operational competence, and reform-oriented mindset inspire hope for renewed public trust and measurable progress in national security.

CRAN reaffirms its commitment to constructive engagement and professional partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in the collective pursuit of peace, safety, and stability across the country.
