The political landscape of Delta North of Delta State witnessed a major shift recently as thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defectors said they were leaving the “darkness of APC” for the “light of prosperity” under the NDC.
The event, which held at Stevenson Hotel, Agbor, was attended by party leaders, stakeholders, and a large crowd of supporters.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Alex Ikpeazu noted that the people were tired of hunger, hardship, and lack of development at both the state and national levels.
He further stated that the mass movement to the NDC was borne out of the people’s desire for credible leadership, good governance, and dividends of democracy.
In his address, the NDC Gubernatorial Candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities within the party.
He also reeled out his developmental agenda for Delta State, promising meaningful development, job creation, and people-oriented governance when elected.
Also speaking, Sir Stevenson Ikpase, JP, CEO of Stevenson Hotel and Stevenson Security Services, and a chieftain of the NDC, described the NDC as the only political party capable of delivering real development to the people of Delta State.
Chief Omizu Ejaife Odebala, another NDC chieftain, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the time had come for the people to embrace a party that prioritizes the welfare of citizens.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the event include:
Amb. Felix Datuonei, former Chairman, Coalition for Equity
Hon. Jonny Mamba Agboifo
Chief Ben Sonny Obuseh
Engr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu
Mrs. Maureen Abiamueen
They all urged the decampees to work for the victory of the NDC in the forthcoming elections, adding that the party represents hope, equity, and prosperity for Deltans.
